FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello Quilters By The Sea
It is hard to believe that June is right around the corner. Do not forget that our June
meeting is June 12. We are wrapping up the first term for this board. I want to say
thank you to everyone on the board and committees. I want to also thank everyone that
volunteered over the past 10 months. I am always looking for a few good women and
men if they decide to join the guild.
June will welcome our own Judy Messenger for a small presentation on Appliqué with a
workshop to follow on Saturday at the Tiverton Senior Center. The meeting will also
include time to start working on items for the Quilt Show Boutique table. More
instructions to follow on this. Please bring along your show & tell.
Karen Eckmeier did a wonderful job with her presentation and workshop. If you missed
the workshop and ever have a chance to attend one, do so. It was a lot of fun and very
creative. I do believe there will be more than one Happy Village in my home in the future
.
Thank you for the kitchen donations. We will still be collecting next month. Bring along
a sponge or 2, a roll of paper towels, pump hand soap, scrubber sponges, etc… You get
the idea.
The Quilt Pins were very popular. I will be ordering more and hopefully I will have them
for the next meeting.
Any volunteers for Quilt Marketing? I hate to sound like a broken record, but… You can
contact me at 841-9519 or klittle1964@yahoo.com if you have any questions or would
like to volunteer.
I hope to have many members participate in the Summer Challenge. It was fun last
September looking at the creations and voting on them. There were many prizes and
awards given. Guidelines will be available at the meeting and also in the newsletter.
Minutes from the May Meeting:
The meeting was opened by Kathy Little and all were welcomed. The fire exits were
pointed out and the meeting began at 1900.
Ruth Davis reported that there were 10 new members all were welcomed and introduced.
They will be given a welcome gift at the June meeting. Dues are being accepted for next
year.
Kathy reminded members that we are collecting for the Raffle baskets, the St. Barnabas
kitchen, and the food drive. A group Funs and Porter Magazine subscription is available
for $15 if anyone is interested. Ellen’s Best Press is available for $2.50 and Quilt pins
from Oregon are $4.00.
Kathy still needs a volunteer to market the Raffle Quilt. The quilt is already booked for
many revues but needs a member to coordinate this very important project.
The Summer Challenge information is available at the check in table. They incorporate
use of this years Block of the Month and will be due at the Sept meeting.
The survey results suggested that check in be more organized. The group agreed that
tonight’s set up was an improvement.
The June meeting will be on the 12th due to a scheduling conflict at the church. The
meeting will include a brief appliqué lecture by Judy Messenger with a workshop on
Saturday June 14th. At the June meeting we will also be working on items for the
boutique table. Joan Coyle gave out instruction for each row of members to collectively
come up with an idea for 1 item. They will - as a group - bring to the June meeting all that
is needed to complete that project. It was suggested to exchange phone numbers or
email addresses so that members could plan ahead. Quick and easy items were
suggested.
Block of the Month was won by Anne Livingston and Charms of the Month won by
Colleen Craveiro.
Kathy reminded the group that pictures were on display of the quilts donated to the
Middletown family that lost their home in a fire. Kathy reported that the family was very
appreciative and the children thought they had to give the quilts back after the pictures
were taken.
The Community service quilts will be presented to the Bristol Veterans Home on May 19th
and Kathy invited anyone interested to attend.
There are 3 New England Quilt Museum passes available if anyone is interested in
attending.
Kathy thanked Ursula Michael for designing the Quilt Show flyer.
Ruth Davis reminded all that the news letter deadline is May 11th. She also gave
information regarding the Quilt show. She reported that the quilt show theme is SEA and
STARS and that nautical props and dress forms are needed. Also a 6 inch sleeve is
necessary for all quilts lap size or bigger. Raffle Baskets donations are still needed.
There are 7 venders at present and 3 more are available. Gladys Grace is the volunteer
coordinator and sign up will be at the June Meeting. Also still needed a person to hang
signs the morning of the show and remove them at the end of the show. Ruth also
suggested to the group for the next show (in 2 years) that a judge could attend for a $5
fee per quilt by those members who wanted their quilt judged. Ruth also reported that
Quiltwear.com donated door prizes for the quilt show. The next Quilt show meeting is to
be announced.
Kathy introduced Karen Eckmeier who gave a lecture and trunk show that was enjoyed
by all. Her workshop is Friday at the Sakonnet Bay Manor.
The meeting was adjourned after show and tell at 2100.
Respectfully,
Anne Livingston, secretary

June Program Information:
"Reminder to all the "row" captains. Have you contacted your row team about your
project for the boutique table???? If you were not at the May meeting, the hall was
divided by rows, each "row" has a captain who will organize the rest of the row. The plan
is to have each row bring in a project along with the necessary supplies to make
something for the boutique table. We hope you will make some new friends and get some
gift ideas while you are working on these projects. We are open for any suggestions.
Remember the quilt show will be right before Halloween and Christmas, people will be
looking for little gifts to buy!!!!

•
The Raffle Baskets will be a big part of our fund raising efforts during the show.

garden related – lots of fabric options

In addition to your local quilt shops, keep your eye out for fun items at gift and specialty

special additions to the baskets. As you make items for the holidays and for the boutique,
please make an extra one or two to donate to the raffle baskets!
At all future QBS meetings, we will be collecting your donations for the baskets at a table
designated for that purpose. Please search your stashes and shop with the basket
themes in mind. We will be grateful for items that are new, in “like new” condition or
VERY GENTLY used.
Thanks in advance for your support and contributions to this effort. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact any one of us on the Raffle Basket Committee.

Historian:
Please send your digital pictures of Mark Lipinski's lecture or workshop to
anythingfabric@yahoo.com to be put on our website www.quiltersbytheseari.com.
Unfortunately, Mark requested that the Simple Simon quilt mockups not be shown on the
Web. I can edit those pictures if necessary and we can print as many as we want for the
QBS history notebook. I can also scan any printed pictures given to me.
Thanks, Karen Jameson

AMISH AND MENNONITE HAND QUILTING SERVICE
Homemade Stitches is celebrating its 15-year anniversary! Hard to believe that what
started with a little idea - to bring expert hand-quilting to enthusiastic quilters, while
providing work for the Mennonite/Amish community - has blossomed into what we see
today. We have made so many lasting friendships over the years, now have many
amazing quilters in our circle, and have the joy of years of a great customer service
reputation. It's been fun, and very fulfilling. (Read our customers' testimonials here: http:
//www.homemadestitches.com/Testimonials]
We are offering some discount coupons for the anniversary, which can be found at our
website, http://www.homemadestitches.com . We continue to offer expert hand-quilting
services, and we have branched into custom quilt-making as well. You can see some
examples of this at the website and get further information.
Homemade Stitches is currently featured in a wonderful profile article in the online Small
Town Living magazine. The April/May issue in which the article appears can be seen and
downloaded free at http://www.stliving.com . It's a great magazine, and our article
includes a bio and interview with Ruby.
We also have a new blog site, in conjunction with our website. This is an online journal of
Ruby's day to day doings at Homemade Stitches, and will feature tips, photos of quilts,
reader input, etc. Please do go and offer your comments or feedback, and help us build
a fun, interactive place for our customers and others to gather! You can find Ruby's
